Minutes & Outcomes
Communication & Organisation
- Improving communication in the TC in order to drive things forward in a more efficient way
- TC forms working groups that take care of specific topics and/or services
- working groups use Slack for internal communication and decisions and meet or chat continuously as needed, but not less than once a month.
- leads of the working groups report back to full the TC group
- the TC group meet once every 4-6 weeks
- Data Model Working Group (NRM) - high-level data model design
- Lead: Markus
- Members: James, Karen, Lisa, Falko, Anton
- Services Working Groups (leads) - defining services/API's
- Taxonomic (AAFC)
- Lead: Karen C.
- Members: Anton, Glen, Christian, Markus
- SeqDB (AAFC)
- Lead: Christian G.
- Members: Matt, Ingimar, X Ottawa, Nazir, Satpal, Changhua
- Collection Management (NRM)
- Lead: Anton
- Members: Karen, Glen, Christian
- Taxonomic (AAFC)
- MVP (Minimum Viable Product) Working Group
- Lead: Mikko
- Membership: Karen, Falko, Markus/Lisa,
- TC group
- Chair: Falko
- We need a glossary!
- e.g. we speak of DINA modules but mean services
- So, we might want to have a more specific terminology in the DINA context as this is essential for further communication & documents
- some wiki pages need updates (e.g. Module_Notes)
Development & Roadmap
- Agile development is preferred
- Adopting NRM's approach of developing a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) in the first place
- MVP 1 is defined as the first core version of the collection management service that covers the requirements for the mammal collection at NRM.
- Institutions select pilot collections and define what features an MVP replacing current system(s) must include
- Then compare MVP's in the MVP working group, to think how much work integrating them would require
- Agreed on recording TC decisions publically on GitHub instead of DINA Redmine in order to keep the TC decisions closer to the code
- still need to figure our whether this is only possible per repo or even across repos
- Thus, former TC decisions can be closed in Redmine.
Action Items
- for the next TC meeting (2nd week of April)
- all working groups will draft scope document for their group
- Slack channels will be opened by the working group leaders
- MfN configures a mailing list system that could replace the existing lists and uses the domain dina-project.net
Miscellaneous
- Agreed on strong preference on Postgres over MySQL or MariaDB in Collection Manager
- An alternative system for video chat is https://appear.in/
- this could be used instead of Google Hangouts or Adobe Connect
- Next meeting probably in Ottawa in fall 2018
Participants
Please indicate if your team will be represented and how many people will join the meeting
- MfN: 2-5 people
- NRM: Mikko Heikkinen, Markus Englund, Anton Öberg
- AAFC: James Macklin, Glen Newton
